Novice Course

Come down on one of our training sessions and try it out for free! Try it for a few sessions before you decide if dragonboating is the sport for you. We welcome new members at all of our training sessions.

Water Training (held at 1 Bank St, Pyrmont):

Sunday mornings: Please arrive by 8:10am.
Tuesday evenings:
Please arrive by 6:30pm.
Thursday evenings: Please arrive by 6:30pm.
Friday evenings:  Please arrive by 6:15pm

Please note that we aim to be prompt on the water - and that means our boat does depart on time. If you are running late, please call or SMS the club representative with whom you have been liaising; we will pick you up in-session.

All you need to bring is positive attitude, sun protection, a water bottle and a change of clothes. This document will give you a sense of what to expect; please read it ahead of your first visit.

Land Training (held at Virginia St, Kensington):

Saturday mornings:  Please arrive by 8am.

As our land training sessions are held at a residential location, please contact our club representatives before attending land training. There will be a bank note donation to our land trainer who provides the venue, equipment and a session plan adapted to help your entrance into the sport.

Season Membership Costs

Being a not-for-profit entity, Sydney Dragon Blades' membership price is very much determined by the costs of providing and replacing equipment, (such as club training paddles, boat hire, lights etc) insurance, as well as DBNSW membership fees. For the 2010/11 season, SDB charges $260 per person, which includes all race fees (excluding National Titles), site hire, coaching and insurance. An additional $90 uniform pack is applicable for those who wish to race right away.

Training Venues

Our paddling sessions occur at 1 Bank Street, Pyrmont, underneath the Pyrmont Bridge and near the Sydney Fish Markets. Limited parking is available on-site. For those arriving by public transport, it is easy to catch the light rail from Central station and alight at either the John Street Square or Fish Markets Stations.

During the season we also conduct land training to improve our strength, endurance and fitness. Land training sessions are held at the waterside King George Park, Rozelle.
