Paddling Technique

Hi all,

Check this out - I know it's a video of water ski paddling - but focus on the paddler's rotation, leg drive (49 secs), and how he uses his whole body at the point of entry (i.e. the catch; 1:20 into the video). If you pause the video at any point at the start of his stroke, you can see his whole chest/back.

Also worth noting is how effortless his arms are even when the boat is gliding along - he doesn't achieve boat run from some massive arm force.

New Paddlers Wanted

Are you keen to give dragon boating a try? The Sydney Dragon Blades are in a phase of growth and welcome paddlers of all physical backgrounds to come for a trial paddle. It doesn't matter if you're not fit - if you're committed to getting fitter, we'll help you get there. Please fill out our contact form and we'll get back to you as soon as possible!

Welcome to the UTS Sydney Dragon Blades

The Sydney Dragon Blades were formed in 1992, as the University of Technology, Sydney Dragon Boat Club. SDB is still the only dragon boat club in NSW who cater for university students and we welcome students from all universities.

Season 2011/12 looks to be an exciting and fun season - the club is keenly recruiting paddlers of all ages and sporting ability - as long as you have a keen interest in becoming fitter, are a team player and don't mind contributing to the club on and off the water.

We're not looking for natural athletes, just ordinary people who want to work hard and have fun in the process. There is definitely the scope to satisfy your competitive desire. We also have scope for social paddlers who come to us to meet new people or make a healthy change to their lives. Does this sound like you?

Training Updates:

No training on Australia Day (Thursday 26th January)
